Overview: The Standard forum for general use is the default format when you begin to create a new forum. As the title suggests, it is a standard format that can generally be used for almost any type of question that you might pose for student response.
For this standard forum, participants will post by choosing Add a new discussion topic. Participants can also respond to other students’ posts. Therefore, it is best used if you want each participant to start out a new thread or “train of thought” about a subject, and respond to the thoughts of others.
The following types of questions would be most appropriate for the standard forum for general use format:
- Introduce yourself by explaining something that not many know about you.
- Choose one way that the article applies to this course.
- What event in history has the biggest impact on the world today?
What students will see
In this forum type, students will see the introduction text in a separate space above the discussion area. Often instructions are placed in this Forum introduction. You can also see the information such as the title of the discussion, who it was started by, the number of replies and the date of the last post.
