Other Activities

Overview: Activities may be added to any page in Moodle. Activities include assignments, choice activities, forums, quizzes, surveys, and more.

Groups

Groups and Groupings allow instructors to assign subsets of a class to work together on an activity. A Grouping can be attached to many kinds of activities, and is particularly useful with forums.

Peer and Self Assessment with Moodle Workshop: Setup Phase

It is often valuable to have students review one another’s work. In Moodle, the Workshop activity helps to make this easier to manage.

Add a Checklist Activity

The Moodle Checklist allows instructors to create a “to do” list for students to work through and provides a visual representation of what has been accomplished so far in the course. The students should check off each item on the list, as they complete it and the resulting progress of the class can be monitored by the instructor. The student can view a progress bar that shows the percentage of the items they have completed.

Getting Student Feedback

The Moodle Questionnaire is a survey-like type of activity. It allows teachers to create a wide range of questions to get student feedback. With Questionnaire you do not test or assess the student, you gather data. The Choice activity allows teachers to ask ONE question and set up radio buttons which learners can click to make a selection from a number of possible responses. Choices can be used as a quick poll to stimulate thinking about a topic, to allow the class to vote on a direction for the course, or to gauge progress. The Survey is a course activity that provides a number of already-created verified survey instruments, including COLLES (Constructivist On-Line Learning Environment Survey) and ATTLS (Attitudes to Thinking and Learning Survey).

Turnitin Assignments in Moodle

Turnitin is available for all Granite State College faculty and student use through Moodle. Turnitin assignments can be used in fully online courses, in hybrid courses, and even in face-to-face courses, as every course at Granite State College is provided with a Moodle course shell and instructors are able to submit work to Turnitin on behalf of students.

Blogs

Blogs are a form of online journal used by millions of people around the world for self-expression and communicating with family and friends. Blogs in Moodle are user based,  not course based; each user has their own blog, and blogs are visible to all Moodle users at Granite State College.

Wikis

A wiki is a collection of collaboratively authored web documents. Basically, a wiki page is a web site everyone in your class can create together, right in the browser, without needing to know HTML. A wiki starts with one front page. Each author can add other pages to the wiki by simply creating a link to a page that doesn’t exist yet.
