Starting in Fall 2018, there is a new Moodle layout using the Altitude theme. This new theme has improved adaptability for mobile devices.
The look and feel will be slightly different, although the general functionality will remain the same. The following are changes of note:
Menu
The main blocks in courses will appear either at the course level OR in the menu. Blocks that are less frequently used or only used by the instructor will appear in the menu. The menu can be accessed via the MENU link in the header section of the course (just below the GSC logo.)
To close the MENU, click on the MENU link again. Docking blocks is no longer supported.
Quick Links to Grading, People & Activities
Prior to the Fall 2018 Term, there was a dropdown menu, "In This Course", which provided quick links to Grades, People and course activities. In the Altitude theme:
- All course activities and resources can be accessed via the Activities block in the main course area.
- Grades are accessed via the Administration block in the menu.
- People are accessed via the People block in the menu.
Moving Blocks
For consistency between courses and ease of use for students, these blocks should remain at the course level in the following order:
- Announcements
- Activities
- Instructor
- Instructor Availability (if used)
- Messages
- Research Help
The following blocks will appear in the menu:
- Administration (Users, Grades, etc.)
- Navigation
- People
- My Reports
As in the previous theme, blocks can be moved around once you are in Edit mode. Hover over the crosshair icon and click while dragging and dropping the block to the desired location. You can also move blocks to and from the menu.
Special Note: When dragging blocks into the menu, you must place them at the top most available spot. You will know you are doing it correctly when the block being moved appears in a grayed out state before you drop the block. Otherwise it will revert to its original location.
