What is it: using messaging in Moodle is similar to using Instant Messaging (IM) that facilitates real-time communication when you are in your course. Depending on how you have your preferences set, messages can also be sent to your Go.Granite.edu email when you are not in your course.
How to use it: messages are best used for short conversations and inquiries such as asking questions to your instructor or classmate. It is not recommended for lengthy detailed conversations and messages do not allow formatting or attachments.
How it works: messages in Moodle are located in a Message block in your course. Email copies of Moodle messages are sent to the email address specified in the message settings when the user is offline for more than the time specified. (To access message settings see the Messaging link in the Administration block).
