Q. What is the difference between email and messages in Moodle?
A. Email is an external communication tool that is not part of the Moodle suite. With that said, your email address (in this case, your Go.Granite email) is used to deliver notifications and forum subscriptions.
Messages on the other hand, are a part of the Moodle suite. They are however more like a combination of instant messaging and email. When you send a message to another user, if they are online at time, they will get the message immediately and you might begin messaging back and forth to one another in real time. If however, the other user is not online, then a copy of that message gets pushed out to his/her email account. The original message remains in Moodle.
The Message tool is at the Moodle site level not just the course level. This means that you will be able to message anyone who is a member of the GSC eLearning+ community. (Read more)
